The OpenSlate API
The OpenSlate API opens the classroom platform to your code. It gives your app the same grounded answers, generated illustrations, and class insights.
What the API does
The API turns a document into a live surface. Your app sends a document and a selection. The API returns grounded answers, generated artifacts, and concept strength data.
How the parts fit
The API has 3 main parts. The Tutor API answers questions. The Visualize API builds interactive illustrations. The Insights API reports what the class understands.
Grounded in the document
Every answer stays inside the open document. The AI tutor cites the exact block it used. Your app can show the citation to the reader.
Runs on the server
All model calls run on the OpenSlate server. The browser holds no secret keys. Your API key stays on your own server.
Built on the OpenSlate platform
The same platform runs the OpenSlate app. It uses Next.js, Supabase, and Claude through the Vercel AI Gateway. Your integration uses the same live services.
Where to start
Create an API key in your account. Read the documentation for setup steps. Add an SDK to call the API. Use webhooks to receive events.
