Student data privacy

OpenSlate protects a student's work and questions. This page explains what a student keeps private and what a teacher sees.

Back to home

A student's questions are theirs

A student's questions belong to the student. A student works on a private overlay. Other students do not see that overlay.

A teacher sees class patterns

OpenSlate clusters the class's questions into a live confusion heat-map. A teacher sees what the class does not understand. The heat-map shows patterns across the whole class.

A teacher supports each student

A cohort dashboard shows each student's concept strength, questions, and artifacts to the teacher. A teacher uses this view to guide each student. OpenSlate keeps this dashboard for the teacher of the cohort.

OpenSlate does not train on student content

OpenSlate does not train on student content. OpenSlate uses student data only to run the service. The AI tutor treats document text as data.

Access controls

A teacher shares a slate to a cohort by invite link or a class code. Roles are viewer, commenter, and editor. OpenSlate enforces each role on the server.

Scope of this page

OpenSlate isolates each user's data with row-level security (RLS). This page describes OpenSlate's approach and is not legal advice. Contact OpenSlate with any question about student data.
